DORAYAKI(The left) MANJYU(The right)

Dorayaki is a type of Japanese confection which consists of two small pancake-like patties made from kasutera wrapped around a filling of sweet red bean paste.
Manjū (饅頭, Manjū?) is a popular traditional Japanese confection. There are many varieties of manjū, but most have an outside made from flour, rice powder and buckwheat and a filling of an (red bean paste), made from boiled azuki beans and sugar. They are boiled together again and kneaded. There are several varieties of bean paste used including koshian, tsubuan, and tsubushian.

On Saturday evening me and Lisa had a 'Chip Supper' which basically means we have visited out local Fish & Chip shop, which is like a fast food takeway. A 'Chip Supper' tends to be a weekend treat to save the usual cook from having to prepare a meal.

First is Lisa's choice. This is traditional Fish & Chips (the fish is cod) with a dollop of tomato ketchup that she has added when we got home.

This is my less traditional, and even less healthy choice. It is a large tray of kebab meat (beef) and chips with extra hot chilli sauce, beautiful.

mikanomoide-
I have a recipe for DORAYAKI but have never been brave enough to try it out. I must admit I have no idea what it will taste like. I must try it when I come to Japan.

hidebow-
Have you tried real English style Fish & Chips then?

I would love to try all those things and more!!! I have a big interest in Japanese cuisine, but the ingredients are hard to get in my town.

<FRIED PORK> TONKATU

Put salt and pepper on the pork.

Lightly coat the pork with flour.

Dip the pork in the egg.

Coat the pork with bread crumbs firmly.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 180 degree.

Fry the pork slowly until golden brown.

*noms monitor* That mousse looks wonderful, tomoko!

Woo, tomorrow's lunch. Very simple, bologna + cheese sammitch, two clementines (no seeds, lovely), some nuts (quiet children Razz ), some blackberry flavored yogurt, and carrots.

Very easy peasy boring stuff, but it gets me through the day!

Everyone else's food puts mine to shame. Razz
